Explain the term peripheral devices.

  1. Peripheral devices are the computer devices that are connected to the
computer externally such as printer, scanner, keyboard, mouse, tape
device, microphone and external modem. It can be internal such as
    CD-ROM or internal modem.
  2. Peripheral devices can be classified according to their functions :
  1. Input Devices: These are like the messengers that carry your commands into the computer. Think of your keyboard and mouse. When you type or click, they send signals to the computer telling it what to do.
  2. Output Devices: These devices show you the results of your commands. For instance, your printer gives you a physical copy of a document, your monitor displays what you’re working on, and your speakers play the sound from your computer.
  3. Storage Devices: Just like your brain stores memories, storage devices hold onto your computer’s data. These include your hard disk drive (HDD), where you save all your files, USB flash drives for portable storage, floppy disks (though these are becoming rare), and even tape drives for large-scale data storage.
