Explain design process for icons.
The design process :
- Define Purpose:
- Figure out what the icon is for and where it will be used.
- Brainstorm ideas with the team, thinking about real-world connections.
- Keep it simple with basic concepts for a clear message.
- Collect, Evaluate, and Sketch:
- Start with paper sketches before moving to the computer.
- Everyone on the team should contribute their ideas through sketches.
- Don’t worry about details or pixel perfection at this stage.
- Draw in Black and White:
- Many icons will be displayed in monochrome (single color).
- Consider color as an enhancement, not a necessity.
- Test for Expectation, Recognition, and Learning:
- Icons represent objects and actions; testing is crucial.
- Regularly test and refine the icons for user expectations and recognition.
- Measure both recognition and learning during testing.
- Test for Legibility:
- Ensure icons are clear and readable, especially on different screen backgrounds.
- Check against various background colors; white or gray might pose challenges.
- Redraw in black and white if color creates issues on certain screens.
- Register Icons in the Systems Registry:
- Keep a record of all system icons in a registry.
- Provide detailed descriptions for each icon for clarity.
