What are the advantages and disadvantages of RSA ?

Advantages of RSA:

  1. Convenience: RSA helps with the challenge of sharing encryption keys securely.
  2. Message Authentication: It enables the use of digital signatures, allowing the recipient to verify the sender’s identity.
  3. Tampering Detection: With digital signatures, it’s possible to detect if a message was altered during transmission.
  4. Non-repudiation: Digital signatures act like a virtual signature, making it difficult for the sender to deny sending a message.

Disadvantages of RSA:

  1. Key Authentication: Verifying that a public key belongs to the intended person is crucial, and it’s not always easy to be absolutely sure.
  2. Slowness: RSA is slower compared to other encryption methods, making it impractical for large amounts of data.
  3. Resource Intensive: It requires more computer resources compared to simpler encryption methods.
  4. Security Risks: If someone gains access to a person’s private key, they can read all their messages.
  5. Irreparable Loss: Losing a private key means that all received messages become unreadable and irreparable.
