Explain the types of intrusion detection system.
Types of intrusion detection system:
- Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS):
- What it does: Watches the traffic on a network to catch any suspicious activities.
- How it works: Sets up at key points in the network to look closely at data passing through.
- Example: Think of it like a security guard at the entrance of a building checking everyone who comes in.
- Host-based Intrusion Detection System (HIDS):
- What it does: Keeps an eye on what’s happening on individual computers or servers.
- How it works: Installs a small program on each computer to check for unusual activities.
- Example: Imagine it as a detective inspecting every room in a house to make sure nothing fishy is going on.
- Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS):
- What it does: Guards the outer boundaries of a place, like a fence around a secure area.
- How it works: Uses technology on the fence to sense any disturbances and sets off an alarm.
- Example: Picture it as a security system for the fence around a valuable garden that alerts if someone tries to climb over.
- VM based Intrusion Detection System (VMIDS):
- What it does: Keeps an eye on virtual machines and their activities.
- How it works: Monitors the virtual world to catch any unusual behavior.
- Example: Think of it like a virtual security guard making sure all the virtual machines are behaving properly.
